David Hosking - Global Managing Director at Contiki Tours
David Hosking is the global managing director of Contiki Tours, a tour group under the umbrella of the world’s largest travel and tourism firm, The Travel Corporation (TTC). Hosking has showcased his abilities and exceptional management skills at Contiki Tours since 1976. He also holds other positions at The Travel Corporation, including a seat on its board of directors and a top position as president of TTC's non-profit group, The Conservation Foundation.

    Early Travel Experience

Contiki Tours is a company under The Travel Corporation, a tour and travel business holding at least 25 different tour, travel and leisure brands under its umbrella, including Trafalgar Tours. When he began his career at Contiki Tours (then called Contiki Holidays) - a company specifically designated for 18-35 year olds - Hosking led tours to areas like Russia and Scandinavia, and organized tour programs to Afghanistan, Jordan, Iraq and India. As several of these countries began to experience political unrest,  Contiki decided to start sending their customers to safer locations. It was Hosking who began a new travel alternative for Contiki patrons in New Zealand. Hosking set up a tour program for New Zealand in 1981 and became the operations manager there. After the success of Contiki in New Zealand, he was then sent to Australia to set up the Contiki group there.

    Current Travel Experience

Hosking continued his success by heading to the United States where he helped to establish Contiki USA. He became the president of the American sector and held that position in Los Angeles until 1987. Hosking then continued his climb up the travel management ladder by being named managing director of Contiki Europe. He took care of his new responsibilities from London and just four years later in 1990, he became global managing director of the entire Contiki Tours group. Finally, in 1996, he was transferred to Geneva, Switzerland, where he became the managing director of TravCorp S.A. and currently manages a staff of 50 from that office.

    Background

In July 1953, David Hosking was born in Whangarei, New Zealand. He studied agriculture at Canterbury University in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Hosking began working as a tour guide and tour driver for different travel and tourism companies following his university graduation. It was then that he was hired for Contiki as a tour manager for the company's European sector.

Hosking currently lives with his wife and family in Switzerland.

    Non-Profit Experience

Aside from his extensive business, travel and tourism experience, Hosking is also the president of The Travel Corporation's Conservation Foundation. This non-profit organization promotes awareness and education of issues concerning the environment in connection with the travel industry through sustainable tourism. The Foundation manages projects relating to restoring and preserving the ecology of various regions and supports conservation efforts through charity. One of the most recent projects saw Hosking take part in the Foundation's efforts for Earth Month in 2011. The Conservation Foundation also announced a partnership with Celine Cousteau's group, Oceana, in order to promote the preservation of marine life.
